Social media stories came into existence with Snapchat. Later, Instagram and Facebook followed Snapchat’s footsteps and introduced their own versions of stories to please their fans and win their loyalty.
Surely, you can put up stories by making a various amount of changes or by adding a lot of elements in them to make them look unique. However, what you might not know is that you can also post your old photos in the stories apart from taking current selfies or pictures.
Before you begin adding old photos, just keep in mind that doing it excessively might displease your followers. Here’s the guide on adding the photos you’ve already taken on your phone in your stories on Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook.
Adding Old Photos on Snapchat Story
Firstly, open your Snapchat app. You will find a little bubble on your screen directly below the circle button which is used to snap a new photo on Snapchat. Click that little bubble and you’ll come across a screen filled with photos you’ve saved on two feeds – Snapchat and camera roll.
You may scroll through either feed until you find the old photo you want to post on your Snapchat. After you select the photo you want to post, tap ‘Edit & Send’ option to move forward. Here you will be asked to edit the photo before posting and will come across all the editing options offered by Snapchat.
Once you’re done with editing the photo, tap the blue arrow button to send your story as ‘My Story’ or send it to any of your friends on Snapchat. After your story has been posted, you would notice that photos uploaded from Snapchat will look normal, covering the full screen whereas a white border will appear around the ones you’ve taken from your camera roll. Moreover, it will also say that they’ve been taken from your camera roll as a result people will know that you’ve posted an old photo. If that is not a problem for you, then you’re good to go.
Adding Old Photos on Instagram Story
Posting old photos on Instagram is almost similar to Snapchat only with the exception of one thing – you can only post old photos that are saved to your camera roll for the last 24 hours. Therefore, if you want to post a picture from last week or last month, then you have to re-save it on your camera roll first.
The process of adding old photos in easy. Start the Instagram app and click the camera button present on the upper left hand of the app. To see the photos saved on your camera roll, tap the box next to the flash icon on the screen.
Select a photo and then watch it appear on your screen. You may edit it as per your own preference using the same editing options you are given while posting a new photo on Instagram story. One slight downfall while adding old photos to Instagram story is that it’s not displayed in its entirety. The photo will fit to screen but it will also crop some parts of it. The best way to feature a full story without any cropping is to take a screenshot of that picture and then upload that screenshot as your story. Hit ‘Next’ followed by ‘Your Story’ and then you’re good to go. You may also share the story separately with your friends on Instagram.
Adding Old Photos on Facebook Story
Adding old photos on Facebook is similar to the first two but there are a few slight differences.
Open your Facebook mobile app and tap your icon present at the top of the app to create a story. Once the camera opens, tap the little square button on the extreme right of the screen. Photos from your camera roll will pop open down below in the form of a slide show and you can select the one you want to post.
Once you’ve selected the photo, editing options will pop up allowing you to add stickers or filters of your choice. After editing the photo, hit the arrow button and then tap ‘Your Story’ to make it go live. Just like Instagram, your story will disappear after 24 hours.
Now that you’ve learned how to add old photos to social media stories, it’s time for you to share some of your best memories!
