This number only includes Apple devices that were used in the past 90 days.
In its first quarter’s financial report, Apple has revealed that the active install base on its devices has surpassed 1 billion. The devices mentioned here include iPhone, iPad, Mac, iPod Touch, Apple TV, and Apple Watch that have been used in the past 90 days.
This time last year, Apple made a similar announcement where they revealed that over 1 billion iOS based gadgets have been sold. Selling devices is one thing, but having more than a billion active users is completely different. CEO Tim Cook seemed quite happy with his company’s recent achievement.
“Our team delivered Apple’s biggest quarter ever, thanks to the world’s most innovative products and all-time record sales of iPhone, Apple Watch and Apple TV. The growth of our services business accelerated during the quarter to produce record results, and our installed base recently crossed a major milestone of one billion active devices.”
Apple is able to keep tabs on its numbers because most of its sales occur through first-party stores. It has opened an outlet almost everywhere and people prefer to buy the product from there. Other tech companies take distribution routes and sell their gadgets via different retailers. This is why most of their financial reports just show amount of units shipped.
Over 1 billion users is quite an achievement for Apple and you can expect this number to grow when Apple comes up with new devices this year.
