Apple’s new gaming device is not even close to being in the same league as PS4 and Xbox One.
It seems that once again we gave into the hype and expected way more than we should have. Just a few hours before Apple’s event, rumors were circulating that the tech giant will announce a new gaming console that will go toe to toe with PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
However, what turned up at the event was nothing short of an anti-climax. Apple’s new gaming device is just there to run iOS games which you can easily play on your iPhones. Apple TV integration of this gaming device will surely come in handy as a large number of people would want to play games on their TV. However, it’s not the gaming platform that it was hyped up to be, and Microsoft and Sony are still the ones holding the console market.
The whole reveal of gaming platform took about five minutes, which just goes to show that Apple isn’t really into gaming. The next reveal was of Gilt shopping app, which was given almost the same amount of time.
Apple doesn’t seem too interested in gaming and rightly so. Most of the people are interested in iPhones, iPads, Macs, etc. Apple realizes that there’s still so much potential in the markets where they are dominant, which is why those markets will continue to have their full attention.
