Facebook has been receiving a lot of criticism for providing misinformation during the election, which resulted in the win of Donald Trump. The tech giant kind of acknowledges this problem, and says that it will take measures to remove misinformation from the social networking platform.
“We value authentic communication, and hear consistently from those who use Facebook that they prefer not to see misinformation.”
Although they were ready to admit their mistake, they said that their platform had no hand in providing misinformation regarding the election. CEO Mark Zuckerberg had this to say on the subject.
“Personally I think the idea that fake news on Facebook, which is a very small amount of the content, influenced the election in any way, I think is a pretty crazy idea. Voters make decisions based on their lived experience.”
Facebook has made the promise of similar sorts before, but didn’t really do much. However, now that it is facing so much criticism for providing misinformation during the election, it may finally take measures to stop fake news from spreading.
