A Lexus, outfitted with Google self-driving technology was a victim of a really bad accident this past weekend. Fortunately, no one was badly injured.
The car responsible for the accident was a van, which ran red light and smashed straight into the Lexus. Google’s reps are saying that their AI was not at fault here because the other car just ran into them.
They are right about that because according to the data collected, the light was supposed to stay green for at least 6 more seconds when Lexus passed through it, so it wasn’t at fault here.
This incident just goes to show that the world we live in today is just not ready for the driverless cars just yet. There are so many things that could go wrong. There’s still a long way to go before any company can claim that people can completely rely on auto-pilot.
