Webcam is a commonly used tool for starting a video conversation with anyone, but it must be disabled after use as hackers can use it to spy on people. You can disable a webcam manually by following these simple steps.
- Click on the Start menu button to open the Device Manager. Alternatively, you can access it even more quickly using the search field.
- A Window displaying several options will appear in the Device Manager.
- Click on “Imaging devices”. If this option is missing, then look for “Sound, video and game controller”.
- The integrated webcam will be listed right under “Imaging devices”. Right click on it. Click on “Disable” to disable the webcam manually. You can enable it any time by following the same process and clicking on the enable button instead.
Note: The process has been tested out on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 only. It might work on Windows 10, but if it doesn’t, then please search for the relevant guide on the web.
