Huawei Mate 8 is a really good entry in the market and fills its role quite well. It has long lasting battery, a feature which is unheard of in the modern day smartphones. Moreover, it has fast and efficient fingerprint sensor, which is also something we don’t see every day. It has a bunch of other great points including great design, brilliant performance, and sharp display, but it is held back by mediocre speakers, average camera, and outdated software. It is not a bad smartphone by any means, but now that a lot of people make use of phone speakers and cameras, it just doesn’t make any sense that no attention was paid to them. However, despite its flaws it’s an worthy product and if you are in the market for a new phone, you might want to check it out.
Huawei Mate 8 really shines in this department. It has a slick look and smart structure, which makes it easy to hold and operate. It doesn’t feel too heavy either, which allows you to put it in your pocket and don’t feel any extra weight. Most of the high-end smartphones are heavy and fat, and putting them in your pocket feels like extra burden. Fortunately, that’s not the case with Huawei’s new iteration.
Mate 8 comes with HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset, Octa-core (4×2.3 GHz Cortex-A72 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex A53) processor, and Mali-T880 MP4 GPU. All of these specifications are accompanied by 3GB or 4GB RAM depending on which version you purchase. The 32GB version comes with 3GB of RAM, whereas 64GB version boasts 4GB RAM. These are amazing specifications and they allow you to multitask without suffering from stutters, slowdowns, crashes, or any other problem.
Primary camera is of 16MP and comes with autofocus, dual LED flash, f/2.0, OIS, f/2.0, 27mm, OIS, and phase detection features. However, despite all these great additions, it doesn’t live up to the cameras that are being offered by its competitors. You never know what kind of result you are going to get as it is never consistent, which makes its usage a bit of a pain. You have to take multiple pictures to ensure that you got the right and that really shouldn’t happen.
Huawei Mate 8 does not come with the latest software which means that you will be stuck with the old features, and your device can succumb to the new malware. If you don’t really care about what software you’re on, then you can go for it, but most of people want their new device to be updated to the latest firmware, and for those people, Mate 8 is not an option.
With 4000mAh battery, this phone can outlast most of the competitors in the market with ease. Even under extreme conditions, the battery didn’t drain at the rate as I expected it to. The battery is long, which allows you to do multitasking without worrying about your phone dying out. It is easily the best feature of Mate 8.
Huawei Mate 8 is an incredible new iteration as it boasts some amazing features like long-lasting battery, slick design, and high-end performance. However, the outdated software and a mediocre camera hold it back from greatness.
