It was rumored that Apple would be ditching its current LTPS display in favor of OLED with iPhone 8, and this speculation has turned out to be true.
Jeng-Wu, an executive at Sharp (one of Apple’s supplier) confirmed this rumor in a statement to Nikkei.
“The iPhone has been evolving and now it is switching from LTPS (low-temperature poly-silicon) to OLED panels. We don’t know whether Apple’s OLED iPhones will be a hit, but if Apple doesn’t walk down this path and transform itself, there will be no innovation.”
It has been a long time coming, users have been asking Apple to change their display for quite some time and they have finally listened. iPhone 8 with OLED would be a sight to behold.
As far as other changes are concerned, you will have to wait for them, likelihood is that they will also be leaked and confirmed before the tech giant officially unveils the next iteration next year.
