A global problem has brought together the two tech wizards once again.
Facebook and Microsoft are joining hands to rid this world of the climate change issues. Today, Mark Zuckerberg revealed that he and his wife Priscilla Chan will be partnering up with Bill Gates to launch the Breakthrough Energy Coalition, whose purpose would be to invest in zero-carbon energy technology around the globe.
The new collaboration came just in time as the U.N. Climate Control Conference is about to take place in Paris this week. During the conference, President of the United States Barack Obama and Bill Gates are expected to announce a new initiative called Mission Innovation. This new program will include governments of different countries, and their task would be to double the public investment in energy research.
Washington Post reports that 19 countries have already joined in on Mission Innovation initiative which will help them generate over $20 billion by 2020. This money will be spent on clean-energy research and development.
Although Mission Innovation and Breakthrough Energy Coalition are different initiatives, they will be working together with countries that have signed up to reduce carbon emissions.
Details are scarce on the partnership at the moment, but we’ll certainly get to know more about it during the Climate Control Conference that’s going to take place this week.
