The Facebook CEO did however reveal that a new empathy button is in the works.
People have been asking for Facebook Dislike button for quite some time now, and yesterday when Mark Zuckerberg stated that he is hard at work to come up with a button that will allow users to show empathy towards the victim of tragedies and other incidents where like button becomes inappropriate, news outlets somehow took it the wrong way.
After listening to what Zuckerberg had to say, multiple news sites around the world started to report that Facebook will be coming up with Dislike button very soon. However, that’s not the case as the man himself explicitly confirmed that don’t expect a Dislike button to make its way to the biggest social networking platform on the web right now.
Zuckerberg elaborated that Dislike button on Facebook won’t do much good because people constantly update their profiles as they want other people to know what’s going on in their lives. Down vote or dislike button won’t work on this type of platform, hence don’t expect it to be on Facebook.
The new empathy button discussed in the Q&A session will solely focus on victims of tragedies. So instead of liking a post that’s giving news about a tragedy, the users will be able to hit empathy button.
