Six years after its launch, Microsoft is ready to kill off Skype on TVs in a few months, June to be more precise. The company will stop releasing any new updates for the app after that.
In its official blog post, it was further revealed that after June, the availability of the service on TV may depend on the TV model and what the manufacturers decide.
The tech giant conceded that the decision to end support for the TV version of Skype was based on the realization that a large number of Skype users access the app through their smartphones.
Microsoft is looking to focus on their core mission of delivering best experience to the most commonly used platforms, and television is certainly not one of them.
