Nokia has clarified that it has no plans to manufacture or sell any smartphones in the near future.
Some reports started to hit the internet saying that Nokia might be returning to manufacturing new smartphones. However, that’s not the case as Nokia itself has made a statement revealing that the company has no plans to continue working on new smartphones as of now.
The statement reads: “Nokia reiterates it currently has no plans to manufacture or sell consumer handsets.”
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone as Nokia has sold its phone business to Microsoft and has signed a deal which stops them from coming up with a new phone before 2016.
Nokia has been pretty active lately as it just announced that it has taken over Alcatel-Lucent business to take advantage of their map business. This can turn out to be an amazing deal considering Facebook, Uber and car manufacturers are looking to utilize Alcatel’s services.
The tech giants are not allowed to launch a new smartphone in the market until next year, but after that, we can expect them to come up with something new and unique that may help them in regaining their fan-base.
