Sony Xperia Z3 Compact: Greatness Comes in All Sizes

Staying true to the trend, Sony had released two iterations of its 3rd entry in the Xperia Z series, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact. While both sets are almost similar, the main difference between them is of the screen size. We have already given you detailed review of Z3, and now we will focus on its younger sibling, the Z3 Compact.

Design

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, as the name suggests, is the smaller iteration of the two new models. The design of the phone is quite similar to that of Z3 and other mobiles in the same family, but its thinner and smaller design is what makes it attractive. Z3 Compact is a lot easier to handle with one hand as compared to its big brother. One of its most salient design features is that the dock ports along with other ports are covered, thus making the phone waterproof.

Performance

The performance of Z3 Compact is impressive, largely due to the 2.5 GHz Quad-Core Krait 400, Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 processor. Sony has also added Adreno 330 GPU into the phone that will cater to your gaming needs. All the apps and functions work at a pretty fast pace, giving you an amazing experience.

Software

Z3 Compact comes installed with the latest Android 5.0 (Lollipop). This software is accompanied by enhanced interface that is very much like the UI of PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. However, those of you who won’t like this interface will be able to change at any time. Unfortunately, the bloatware issue is there, something that most Android users may already have gotten used to living with.

Display

With a screen size of 4.6 inches, Z3 Compact will surely be a hit amongst those users who are not drawn to phablets. However, smaller screen has a downside as it is not be able to provide you with full HD experience. The phone only supports up to 720p videos, so only go for it if you aren’t a big fan of best resolution. However, lower resolution does not mean that the sharpness of the screen will be affected in any way, as you will still be able to get the remarkable experience that you expect from a Z series smartphone.

Camera

Z3 Compact comes with a 20.7-megapixel rear camera that produces excellent results. The camera particularly comes in handy when you just point and click. Even if you are not steady, the phone’s image stabilization feature will provide you with an excellent image. Coming to the videos, the camera allows you to record with the resolution of up to 2160p with 30 frames per second. On the other hand, the front camera is of 2.2 mega pixels and supports up to 1080p resolution, whereas the frame rate is restricted to 30 fps.

Battery

Battery is where the compact variant of Z3 shines the most. It contains 2600mAh battery that will easily last you for a couple of days even when you are using internet or playing games. Performing mundane tasks and using the battery management apps will help the battery last an additional day or two. There are a lot of people who don’t approve of their phone struggling to make it through the day, so for them, Z3 Compact is an ideal option.

Connectivity

The latest offering from Sony comes with almost all the connectivity options that are deemed an essential in smartphones nowadays. It supports 3G, 4G, WLAN, GPRS, USB and Bluetooth, hence taking care of all your needs.

Storage

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact comes only with 16 GB internal storage, which might not be enough for some users, but you don’t have to worry about limited storage as the phone supports SD card (up to 128GB).

Verdict

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact is a user-friendly phone with a lot of incredible features like its waterproof design, amazing battery, and great camera, but there are a few downsides as it does not support full HD display and comes with plenty of bloatware. However, if you can look past these shortcomings, then you have got yourself an amazing phone.
