iOS version of the app received similar features few weeks ahead of the Android version.
WhatsApp for Android received an update bumping it to the version 2.12.367. The update comes with a handful of useful features, most of which were already added to the iOS version of the app a few week back.
The first update is the addition of star icon, a feature similar to bookmarking. From now onward, you can star messages to read them in a separate folder anytime you want. Just tap and hold the message and it will automatically be starred. You may go to the starred message from Chats>Menu>Starred Messages.
Another useful feature is the addition of link previews containing decent amount of information about the given URL so that you may get an idea about the content present on the given link without even opening it.
Android direct share feature has also arrived. This feature allows you to share content with WhatsApp contacts and groups directly through the share menu. Previously, users were required to go to the app, select the content, tap WhatsApp, select the contact, and hit send. The third feature is only limited to Android Marshmallow though.
The latest version is available as a free update on Google Play.
