Pokemon GO has had one of the biggest launches in smartphone history and now retailers all over the world are looking to capitalize on this success. They have asked Niantic (the team behind the game) to add their businesses into their virtual map in exchange for benefits, and the company has accepted the offer.
Speaking to Financial Times, Niantic CEO John Hanke stated that “sponsored locations” would add new revenue stream for them, and will also enable them to integrate new in-app purchases and power ups.
The CEO refused to comment on the terms of the deal or how it went down, and he didn’t provide a specific time for the update either. However, he did assure that he and his team will do their best to make sponsored locations a reality sooner rather than later.
